After spending all that time and energy getting your Tuscan décor just right, why not show it off! New Year’s Eve is the perfect opportunity to display your new Tuscan style to all of your family and friends—throw in a few Tuscan New Year’s traditions and you’re sure to have one spectacular party!

Food and Feasting

In addition to your Tuscan kitchen and dining room decor, your menu is a great tool for setting the mood for your Italian-themed New Year’s party. New Year’s, also know as La Festa di San Silvestro in Italy, features a very specific menu with symbolic—and delicious—food. You’ll need to cook up some lentils for good fortune and money as well as a pork dish to represent the richness of the coming new year. Of course, sparkling wine is also a must for any Tuscan New Year’s celebration.

Keep in mind that Tuscan New Year’s parties often last until dawn, with guests lingering to welcome the first sunrise of the year together. Make sure you have plenty of food and drink on hand to keep the party going until the break of day.

Fireworks and Dancing

Traditional Italian New Year’s celebrations always include fireworks at midnight—but don’t be dismayed if you can’t afford to light up the night sky! Private parties often celebrate with sparklers or firecrackers. However, the dancing is non-negotiable. In the hours leading up to the ball drop, be sure you have plenty of toe-tapping music on hand to get your guests out on the dance floor.

Don’t Forget to Dress Up

As in Spain, Italian folklore holds that wearing red undies on New Year’s will bring you luck throughout the new year. So grab a bright pair of drawers when you dress for your party and you’ll have a fantastic 2010!
