In recent weeks we’ve been talking a lot about Tuscan design furniture and accents, but not a whole lot about art itself. So today I want to highlight the two primary categories of Tuscan art—landscapes and metal scrollwork, emphasizing how they can play a big roll in your Tuscan home décor!

Let’s start with landscapes because this is generally the art that comes to mind when you think “Tuscany.” These images help transport the rolling fields of grain, olives, and grapes into the interior of the Tuscan villa, extending the scenery as the backdrop of the indoors as well as the outdoors. Available in a huge variety of formats from photographs to prints, Tuscan landscape art is a great way to ground your décor in the panorama of the Mediterranean (even if your home is in New Jersey or California!). I prefer artisan-created art like paintings, lithographs, and hand-printed illustrations, as they tend to best emphasize the rustic, bucolic nature of Tuscany. One of my favorite styles of Italian landscape art is the unique metal-mesh wall art created by Pear-Sun Designs. Their innovative medium actually seems to capture and reflect some of the pure light of the Tuscan countryside… I just love the way the metal mesh radiates light in their Tuscan landscapes!

The second type of art frequently used in Tuscan design is scrollwork. This metal medium is used to form spirals, arabesques, leaves, flowers, vines, and so much more. A more subtle reflection of the beauty of nature, the botanical themes and motifs depicted in iron grilles, medallions, and frames seems to capture the vital essence of the flora and fauna. Where fresh flowers and cuttings soon wilt and die, scrollwork is a more permanent way to display plants, leaves, and flowers in your home. I also love that scrollwork often features time-worn, antique finishes, helping emphasize the timeless nature of classic Tuscan style.

For the best results, try mixing and matching a variety of landscapes and scrollwork pieces of various sizes on the walls of your Tuscan home. Complementing and playing off each other, these two types of art are all you need to transport your décor from so-so to sophisticated Tuscan in an instant!

Don’t forget, you can find all types of Tuscan art atJust What I Want. From our Pear-Sun Designs metal mesh wall art exclusives to ornate scrollwork, medallions, and grilles, we have the Mediterranean-inspired art you need to dress up just about any wall in your home.
